HAMDEN - Sweeney Excavation, one of the Sweeney Companies, the first contractor in the State of Connecticut to use a global positioning system (GPS), has increased its commitment to the use of GPS technology and has placed an order for additional equipment. This $40,000 further investment will allow the company to expand their capabilities and use the Trimble Sitevision machine control on 2 separate job sites simultaneously. This equipment sends and receives signals from satellites, thereby allowing a bulldozer operator to readily see exactly how much earth to move and where, on a job site. This system gives heavy equipment operators a roadmap of the territory in which they are moving, just as automobile drivers get on roads, with similar navigation technology.

According to Bob Sweeney, company founder and president, "With the expansion of this new technology, clients get a better product at a quicker pace, we can double the work load and satisfy customers that demand an aggressive schedule and a high-quality product."

Since launching his own business 17 years ago, Sweeney has constantly sought out top talent, equipment and training to deliver the highest quality product and service to his customers. He recently launched a new division at Sweeney Excavation, providing poured concrete for building foundations as well as a new company, Sweeney Residential.

The Sweeney Companies, consist of Sweeney Excavation, Inc., the premier provider of commercial site work services; Sweeney Residential, which offers the discriminating homeowner an array of services and products to enhance their property and Blue Diamond Quarry, which supplies aggregate products for the construction industry, homeowners and landscapers.
